ME

2nd journal entry

Well its Sunday, I have not been updating this journal as much as I should but I hope to make a habit out of it eventually. I read Mosiah Ch 5 this morning and here are the things that stood out in my mind.

THE BOOK OF MOSIAH
CHAPTER 5

The saints become the sons and daughters of Christ through faith—They are then called by the name of Christ—King Benjamin exhorts them to be steadfast and immovable in good works. About 124 B.C.

7 hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.

10 whosoever shall not take upon him the name of Christ must be called by some other name; therefore, he findeth himself on the left hand of God.

My LDS friend Warren, who has been staying with me for the past week is leaving for New Mexico tomarrow passing through Utah to visit some friends. He is going to visit his father and help him out with a few things for a while.

THE BOOK OF MOSIAH
CHAPTER 4
King Benjamin continues his address—Salvation comes because of the atonement—Believe in God to be saved—Retain a remission of your sins through faithfulness—Impart of your substance to the poor—Do all things in wisdom and order. About 124 B.C.

Things that stand out to me.

2 have mercy, apply the atoning blood of Christ and receive forgiveness of our sins, our hearts may be purified; believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God, created heaven and earth, and all things; who shall come down among the children of men
6 salvation might come to him that should put his trust in the Lord, and should be diligent in keeping his commandments, and continue in the faith even unto the end of his life, I mean the life of the mortal body—

[Trust in the lord with all your heart, keep his commandments, and endure to the end]

7 this is the man who receiveth salvation, through the atonement
8 this is the means whereby salvation cometh, there is none other salvation, neither are there any conditions whereby man can be saved

[Our Salvation comes through the atonement of Jesus Christ]

9 Believe in God he created all things, he has all wisdom, and all power, believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.
10 repent of your sins and forsake them, humble yourselves before God, ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you, if you believe all these things see that ye do them.
11 knowledge of the glory of God, known of his goodness, tasted of his love, received a remission of your sins, always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, our own nothingness, goodness and long-suffering towards you, humble yourselves, calling on the name of the Lord daily, standing steadfastly in the faith
12 If ye do this ye shall always rejoice, be filled with the love of God, always retain a remission of your sins, grow in the knowledge of the glory of him that created you, or in the knowledge of that which is just and true.

[When we repent we must do these things]
* Confess your sins to God.
* Feel sincere sorrow for your sins.
* Ask God to forgive you.
* Do all you can to correct the problems your actions may have caused.
* Turn away from your sins and not repeat them.

13 And ye will not have a mind to injure one another, but to live peaceably, and to render to every man according to that which is his due.
15 walk in the ways of truth and soberness, love one another, serve one another
16 succor those that stand in need of your succor, administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish.

[Give to those that need and don't leave them out to perish]
-I can't count the number of times I have passed someone holding a sign to please help and thought that maybe they don't really need it...what if they really do, who am I to judge.

19 For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?
21 And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to aimpart of the substance that ye have one to another.
22 And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life belongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.

[If someone is begging so that he won't parish, and you condemn him for it, how much will your condemnation be for withholding what you have when in actuallity it belongs to god to whom your life belongs to and yet
you did not ask for help nor did you repent for not helping others.]

24 I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give.

[If you don't have anything to give, at least have it in your heart that you would give if you could]

26 that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God
28 whosoever among you borroweth of his neighbor should return the thing that he borroweth, or else thou shalt commit sin; and perhaps thou shalt cause thy neighbor to commit sin also.

[If you barrow something bring it back or you may find yourself commiting sin and may cause others around you to commit sin as well]
*I was always taught while growing up that you should return things in better shape then you got them.*

30 But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.
